Evan Jones, Executive Chairman
Evan is the Managing Member of jVen Capital, LLC, a life sciences investment company. Prior to forming jVen Capital, Evan was co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Digene Corporation, a publicly traded biotechnology company focused on women’s health and molecular diagnostic testing. Digene was sold to Qiagen N.V. in July 2007 for $1.6 billion.
Evan has 25 years of operating and investment experience in the life sciences industry where he founded or helped start numerous life sciences companies. Currently, Evan serves as Chairman of the Board of Signature Genomic Laboratories LLC and as a Board Member of CAS Medical Systems, Inc., Opgen, Inc., and Veracyte, Inc. Additionally, Evan serves as Chairman of the Board for the Campaign for Public Health, an organization dedicated to the CDC annual budget, and as a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of Research! America. Past service includes Chairman of the Board of the Children’s Research Institute and as a Board Member for the Children’s National Medical Center.
Evan has a BA degree from the University of Colorado and an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Ronald W. Lennox, D. Phil., Director
Ron is a founding partner at CHL Medical Partners. Prior to joining CHL Medical Partners in 1997, Ron was a general partner at Hancock Venture Partners (now HarbourVest Partners) where he invested in sixteen healthcare companies, eleven of which went public.
Ron currently serves on the boards of BioRelix, Inc. and BIKAM, Inc. Ron has served on the boards of 16 companies including General Surgical Innovations, Inc., (acquired by Tyco International Corp.), GeneOhm Sciences, Inc. (acquired by Becton Dickinson), and Protometrix, Inc., (acquired by Invitrogen Corp.). He was founding CEO of Protometrix, Inc. as well as CGI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and was formerly Chairman of the Board of Amicus Therapeutics, Inc.
Corey Mulloy, Director
Corey opened and currently manages Highland Capital Partner’s Menlo Park office. Prior to joining Highland in 1997, Corey worked in corporate development at ONI Systems, an optical networking equipment vendor, which went public in 2000 and was subsequently acquired by CIENA (Nasdaq: CIEN). Prior to ONI, Corey worked at Robertson Stephens & Company in the investment banking group and The Whitman Group, a start-up company.
Corey serves on the boards of AccentCare, Archemix, BAROnova, Fidelis, Hyperion Therapeutics, moka5 and Yoga Works and has been involved with Codon Devices, Conor (IPO; acquired by Johnson & Johnson), Helicos (Nasdaq: HLCS), NextCard (IPO), NuGenesis Technologies (acquired by Waters Corporation), Pervasis, Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy, Radiant, Telcobuy.com (merged with World Wide Technology), Turbine, and US Labs (acquired by LabCorp).

Bijan Salehizadeh, MD, Director
Bijan represents Highland on the board of Hyperion Therapeutics and is or has been actively involved in Highland’s investments in BAROnova, Conor Medsystems (IPO; acquired by Johnson & Johnson), and Predictive Biosciences.
Prior to joining Highland, Bijan spent several years in marketing and strategic planning at Medtronic Vascular, a world leader in vascular medical technology. Before joining Medtronic, Bijan was the Director of Business Development for HealthCentral, a venture-backed start-up company that became a public offering in 1999.
Brian G. Atwood, Director
Brian Atwood specializes in biotechnology investing at Versant. Brian co-founded Versant Ventures after spending four years at Brentwood Venture Capital where as a general partner he led investments in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and bioinformatics. He also has more than 15 years of operating experience in the biotechnology industry, with emphasis on therapeutic products, devices, diagnostics, and research instrumentation.
Prior to launching his career in venture capital, Brian was founder, president, and CEO of Glycomed, a publicly traded biotechnology company. At Glycomed, Brian concentrated on business development and strategic alliances, closing agreements with Eli Lilly & Company, Millipore, Genentech, and Sankyo, before leading the sale of Glycomed to Ligand Pharmaceuticals. Prior to this, he co-founded and served as director of Perkin Elmer/Cetus Instruments, a joint venture for robotics automation and genomics research instruments and products later acquired by Perkin Elmer. Under Brian’s management, the venture developed and launched the GeneAmp® Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) system, the fundamental DNA amplification innovation responsible for fueling the explosive growth of genomics research. Brian served on the Board of Directors at Pharmion Corporation (sold to Celgene in 2008). Brian currently serves as a Board member at the private companies FivePrime Therapeutics, Veracyte, Inc., Trius Therapeutics, Inc., OpGen, Inc., Immune Design Corporation, PhaseRx, and Clovis Oncology, Inc., as well as public companies, Cadence Pharmaceuticals (CADX), and Helicos Biosciences (HLCS). He is an observer of the Board at ForteBio Inc.
Brian received a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine, a Master’s degree from the University of California, Davis, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Douglas White, CEO, OpGen, Inc.
Doug joined OpGen as Chief Executive Officer in June of 2010. Doug brings 25 years of experience in the in vitro diagnostics market serving in multiple senior executive roles. His roles have included the leadership and development of commercial organizations and partnerships at BG Medicine, QIAGEN, Digene, Bayer, and Chiron Diagnostics. Doug’s extensive experience in the Molecular Diagnostics market played an integral role in the development of high value, clinically relevant, technologies, systems and assays throughout his career.
Prior to joining OpGen, Doug served as Executive Vice President and General Manager for BG Medicine, a life science company focused on the development and commercialization of novel diagnostics tests. Prior to BG Medicine Doug was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Americas, and Chair of the Americas Management Counsel at QIAGEN. At Digene he served as the Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations, where he was responsible for all commercial activities in the Americas and Asia Pacific in addition to the global product management organization. In addition, Doug held several executive positions in the diagnostic industry, including Vice President of U.S. Sales and Marketing, Vice President of Global Product Management, Nucleic Acid Diagnostics, at Bayer Diagnostics, Vice President, Marketing, for Chiron Diagnostics as well as different management roles in sales, market development, strategic and tactical marketing through his career at Chiron and Abbott Diagnostics.
